Follow these instructions to help manage minor dental emergencies.
WHEN A TOOTHACHE OCCURS:
To get rid of particles that might be stuck in the tissue surrounding the tooth, rinse your mouth out with warm water and lightly floss. Please call our office to make an appointment if the pain persists or if the region surrounding the afflicted tooth feels heated.
IF YOU GET A CUT ON THE TONGUE, CHEEK, GUMS, OR LIP:
To assist minimize swelling, apply ice. To stop any bleeding, apply pressure using sterile gauze or a clean towel. Call your doctor or go to the local emergency hospital if the bleeding doesn’t stop.
IF A BABY TOOTH FALLS OUT:

IF A PERMANENT TOOTH COMES OUT:
Make a quick call to our office and follow these instructions.
- Replace the tooth in its socket as soon as possible and bite down on fresh gauze to secure it.
- Insert the tooth in a container of milk or saliva and bring it to your visit if you can’t insert it back in the socket.
- Holding the tooth by the crown, gently clean it with water without touching the root.
IF A TOOTH BREAKS OR CHIPS:
To lessen swelling, gently wash the affected region with lukewarm water and apply a cool compress to the face. If you can find the fractured tooth fragment, soak it in milk and bring it to the office. Please give us a call right away if more than half of the tooth is broken off.
